Facial lifting with special threads is one of the most significant advances in the history of facial rejuvenation/ beautification. It was developed by Moscow cosmetic surgeon Dr M. Sulamanidze in the 1990’s and resulted in the creation of APTOS (anti-ptosis) threads, which have been patented. In the US, facelifting using the APTOS threads has been trademarked as the “feather lift”.
Dr Zurek has been exploring this concept since it was first presented at International meetings. As APTOS threads are not yet approved for use in Australia, Dr Zurek developed the custom-made AGE (Anti-Gravity/ Elevation) Filaments using an approved suture material (commonly used in facial surgery as well as cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurological procedures).
The AGE Filament Facelift not only elevates the facial tissue but also supports it. In Dr Zurek’s experience it has a remarkable effect on the lifting of the outer brow and cheeks, elimination of the groove underneath the eye, lifting of the fold from the nose to the mouth, reduction of the lines from the mouth to the chin as well as lifting of the jowls and neck. The whole face and neck, or just areas of specific concern (eg. brow, cheeks or jowls) can be treated. Patients are delighted with the renewed firmness of their face.
The AGE Filaments anchor themselves underneath the
skin and Dr Zurek expects them to integrate with time. This procedure brings us
closer to the ideal of lifting drooping tissue without external incisions.
In some cases, to achieve the optimum result this
procedure can be combined with another form of facelift (S-Lift, Z-Lift or
conventional facelift).
Dr Zurek is now working on applying the AGE Filaments for elevation and support against gravity in other areas of the body.
