Neck and Lower Face Lift
PLA-S (Platysma Suspension)
The ageing process of the face results in downward movement of soft tissue as volume deflates; the skin sags. The definition of the jaw is obscured and the neck which is often sun damaged, has a crepey, untidy appearance.
Patients frequently request improvement in the neck and lower face but many are not prepared to undergo a conventional surgery.
In response to the request for minimally invasive procedures, Dr Zurek developed the “Z-Lift” in 2000, so named because the access incision around the lower ear, resembled the letter “Z”.
It involved lifting loose tissue of the lower face and neck and fixing it to the hard structure behind the ear, resulting in a 45 degree vector of elevation.
Dr Zurek found that a vertical vector of lifting, as in his SAFE procedure is far more effective.
Therefore, since 2006 he incorporated a revolutionary concept of a vertical neck lift with anchoring to a structure in front of the ear. He renamed this procedure “PLA-S” (platysma suspension).
This resulted in a powerful lifting of the neck and lower face and allows removal and redistribution of loose skin.
Liposculpture of the neck and jowls may be performed at the same time, to remove excess fatty deposits in these areas if necessary.
The Procedure
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and oral sedation, so you will be relaxed and asleep for the whole duration; approximately 2 hours.
The incision is in front of the ears, either in front of the little notch (tragus) or directly on top of it, depending on the individual. The incision continues around behind the ear and the length of that varies according to the amount of loose skin present.
The sutures will be in for 7-10 days before they are removed.
A small dressing will cover the wound, and a support garment which fastens with velcro, on top of the head and behind the neck. Bring a scarf or hooded jacket to wear to conceal this.
After a short recovery period you will be allowed to go home. Medications for pain and antibiotics will be supplied.
You will need to attend the clinic the next day for a dressing change. You may have a shower on the first day and wash your hair on the third day.
Continue to wear the supporting head garment for the first 7 days.
You may return to work after 7 days.
